Bad Plans – Into The Unquiet (2022)

In 1996, US-based Bad Plans entered the world (or at least the singer-songwriter did) and a naturally talented musical force of nature was born. In 2019, Bad Plans began releasing singles and now, in 2022, he is ensnaring the senses of audiences across the globe. Influenced by the likes of Bring Me The Horizon, Korn and Nine Inch Nails, Bad Plans has a hard-hitting, heavy and “in your face” sound (with the attitude to match). The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Into The Unquiet’.

The second release of 2022, ‘Into The Unquiet’ follows his track ‘BRING OUT YOUR DEAD’. As I mentioned, there are some powerful post-hardcore, rock and metal influences in Bad Plans’ music; however, ‘Into The Unquiet’ brings a tinge of nu-metal and electronic rock to the mix. Recorded by Josiah Prince and mixed by Kellen McGregor, ‘Into The Unquiet’ has an arrangement that takes you on a sonic rollercoaster from beginning to end. A truly versatile track, Bad Plans showcases innovation and eclecticism traversing metal, nu-metal and alternative rock.

So, a sonic rollercoaster? Yes, one hell of an up-and-down experience. Opening with soft piano, easy-going drums and laidback vibes, Bad Plans lulls you into a false sense of rock security only to throw you about in the next half-minute or so. Easy-on-the-ears with a bit of gruffness to the vocals, you feel secure; however, a brash blast of guitars and pounding drums throw you off…but you enjoy it. Then back down to something lighter before blasting once again into a gruff, hard-hitting movement. Personally, I love Bad Plans’ move from alternative rock to hard metal.

In addition to the superb, sophisticated and intriguing melody, ‘Into The Unquiet’ has an intimate depth in its lyricism. Bad Plans explains that ‘Into The Unquiet’ was written during a time when he was “feeling burnt out on the music industry as a whole”. According to Bad Plans, the “overall theme of this track is unsettlement in the face of a fast-paced lifestyle…” – and you can hear the frustration, despair and angst throughout ‘Into The Unquiet’.
