Bad Bubble – In Whatever (2023)
Described as sensational, captivating, experimental and able to achieve emotional depth with his cosmic sound, Bad Bubble brings his brand of dream pop to ensnare our senses. Known purely as Bad Bubble, the US-based singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer hides behind a mask but is completely in your face with his music. This is my introduction to Bad Bubble, but he has been turning heads since his first release in 2022. From the US to Brazil, the UK and Germany, BB is reaching far beyond his Chicago borders. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘In Whatever’.
Hot on the heels of his well-received singles ‘People At The Table’ and ‘My Head Ruins Everything’, ‘In Whatever’ has more clarity than the foggy predecessors but retains a misty veil in the melody. When listening to ‘My Head Ruins Everything’, I am oddly reminded of the magical hush heard when choirs sing hymns – strange I know; ‘In Whatever’ has the hymn-like serenity dropped in a contemporary synth swirl.
Finding a line between organic and electronic sounds, Bad Bubble layers wistful synths to intoxicate with a whimsical tone yet retains the heartfelt tenderness of the piano. Bad Bubble shares that the piano is a “wink and a nod” to his mother who played the piano which probably explains why it is the core of the instrumentation. It brings clarity and precision to what would be a mass of heady swirls.
Serene, sincere and sensational with a poetic charm throughout, Bad Bubble sends our souls soaring with ‘In Whatever’. Bad Bubble’s most popular single is ‘This Is For Kori’ but I think ‘In Whatever’ can rival the 2022 tune. Highly recommended to everyone and definitely one to keep your eyes on!
In addition to the single, Bad Bubble released an official music video for ‘In Whatever’. This can be viewed below or on YouTube. Please note: this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
