Baby FuZZ – We’re All Gonna Die!!!
Hailing from Austin, Texas (by way of Los Angeles, California), Baby FuZZ is the pop-punk solo project of producer and songwriter Sterling Fox. After producing ‘Video Games’ by Lana Del Rey, Fox was emerging as one of the most in-demand pop songwriters in the music industry. Soon he was working with artists like Britney Spears, Madonna, Elle King, Avicii and more. In 2016, after the election of Donald Trump, Fox travelled to Canada only to reemerge as Baby FuZZ.
Combining elements of rock, pop and punk with tongue-in-cheek vocals, Baby FuZZ is a dynamic, compelling and slightly crazy artist. In 2019, he released his debut album Plastic Paradise – a remarkably diverse record with a strong focus on self-awareness. While many of his tracks have a degree of buoyancy, it is the juxtaposition of cheery and poignant that makes Baby FuZZ unique. The latest addition to his repertoire is the pop-punk single ‘We’re All Gonna Die!!!’
To be completely honest, I am unsure how to review ‘We’re All Gonna Die!!!’. I can tell you about the highly energetic burst of pop-punk with a simple transition to screaming punk-rock near the end. I can tell you about the catchy pop chorus and how it is a toe-tapping tune. I can tell you about the speedy and potentially controversial lyrics that spill out of Baby FuZZ’s mouth at a million miles per second. I can also tell you about the influence of the current sociopolitical climate on the narrative. I could even mention the symbolism of American absurdity in the track. The thing is, it’s just too captivating and crazy to fully analyse and explore.
An unorthodox and unapologetic song ‘We’re All Gonna Die!!!’ is both insane but outstandingly creative and relatable – I mean, we are all going to die someday. I’m not sure death is something to laugh about, but this refreshing take on every terrifying type of death can keep me grinning long after the three-minute song ends. Baby FuZZ describes himself as an “emotional roller coaster tycoon” and if ‘We’re All Gonna Die!!!’ is anything to go by that description is spot on.
