Awild Mind – Solitude (2025)

Eager to celebrate life in all its tragedy and triumph, singer-songwriter Awild Mind effortlessly encapsulates reality in moving melody. Last year, November to be exact, the Ireland-based artist caused a stir with his debut single, ‘Boys Of The Choir’, gaining a likening to Fountaines D.C. and Whipping Boy. Showcasing a “knack for capturing emotions otherwise left unsaid…”, Awild Mind poured heart and sincerity in ‘Boys Of The Choir’; however, it is his second single that we are interested in today. Join us as we delve into the most recent addition to his discography, ‘Solitude’.

Rejoined by producer Martin Quinn and recorded at Jam Studios, ‘Solitude’ is a blend of country, indie-rock, twitches of grunge, and a splash of Americana. Sophisticated and mature, the song’s production easily wraps ‘Solitude’ in a smooth sonic wrapper; however, a gritty vulnerability exudes in its raw execution. As with ‘Boys Of The Choir’, Awild Mind ensnares your senses with the new single… then again, this one isn’t as chilled, making you pay attention in its brashness.

A mishmash of pulsating drums, soaring guitars, slices of pedal steel and interspersed piano, ‘Solitude’ is a kaleidoscopic haze of music; however, a sense of barebones starkness exists in the meld of sound. Perhaps it’s the noted individuality of each instrument before coming together in sonic unity. Perhaps it’s the rough spoken-word vocals in a simultaneous smooth chat and bold narrative. Confidence and surety, but still vulnerable and fragile. All in all, ‘Solitude’ is an intricate ball of complexity that leaves you breathless.

Highlighting another facet of his eccentric personality, Awild Mind defies genres in ‘Solitude’. In an Instagram post, he notes: “Some say it’s country, some say it’s spoken word, some say it’s alternative… for me, it’s just music” – and it’s this passion for music in all its forms that wins my heart. Already a fan after two singles, I cannot wait to hear more from Awild Mind.
