Avresa – Nobody’s Listening (2025)
Over the past few years, we’ve featured Avresa several times, from his 2021 single, ‘Are You Happy?’ to the 2024 single, ‘Short-Sighted’. We mention his history, his experience, and his discography, but one element that must be reiterated is Avresa’s eccentric, genre-diverse, hard-hitting saunter through realms of rock, folk, indie, and some peeks of pop. From alternative rock to pop-rock, post-punk and more, the Australia-based singer-songwriter enchants audiences with his moving melodies but also has you contemplating existential issues with his lyricism. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Nobody’s Listening’.
Similar to his previous single ‘Short-Sighted’, ‘Nobody’s Listening’ breathes life into the 90s alternative and pop-rock scene, brimming with memories of yesteryear. Nostalgic and heartfelt, the soaring guitar matches crashing drums with a bold bass lingering in the track; however, just as the rock-drenched single tosses you into a whirlpool of kaleidoscopic sound, it is the lyricism that takes ‘Nobody’s Listening’ to another level. With ‘Nobody’s Listening’, Avresa dives deeper into the concept of discompassion, ignorance, and living in our little bubbles.
I’ll admit, given the current state of the nation – well, the globe, in fact – it’s often more appealing to find your little comfort zone, sit back in your bubble, and let things go by without thinking, caring, or attempting to find out more. It’s safe – but is it? By living in the bubble, we’re bombarded with information to build our biases, destroy any empathy, and exist for ourselves exclusively. When we do step into reality, will we cope or will anyone care? Avresa shares:

For me, two things hint at the urgency of this concept in ‘Nobody’s Listening’. First, the powerful lyricism that refuses to sugar-coat anything; second, the execution of these lyrics. While Avresa’s voice is rich and warm, it exudes vulnerability, concern, and hints of aggression as he explores human fragility and reality. Brimming with sincerity and sentimentality but simultaneously the proverbial kick up the backside, ‘Nobody’s Listening’ wriggles into our bubbles and brains as we reconsider our lives.
