Autoheart – Sad Divide (2025)

With fierce independence and originality, Autoheart can be described as “a DIY band with a clear vision…” Committed to creating music that pushes boundaries while remaining true to their core style, the UK-based trio defiantly declares that “…you can find your place, no matter what anyone says.” Fusing the musicality of Barnaby John Calman, Jody Gadsden, and Simon Neilson, the group is a vibrant concoction of diversity, authenticity, and unconventional eclecticism. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Sad Divide’.

Following their 2024 album Live Me, Live Me, Live Me – a compilation of different live performances – ‘Sad Divide’ sees Autoheart saunter into the new year. Recorded and produced by the band via their label, O/R Records, with mixing by Danton Supple, ‘Sad Divide’ introduces listeners to the upcoming album, Heartlands – an album following the band’s transformation during a sold-out tour in the USA. A celebration of each landscape, the various melodies capture the core of this evolution, and ‘Sad Divide’ captures raw emotion in a few minutes of music.

Defying classification with their melodies, listening to Autoheart is not hearing a song but becoming lost in the twirl of eccentricity and unconventional artistry. ‘Sad Divide’ is a kaleidoscopic wash of synth-pop flecked with commercial pop wrapped in a twirl of alternative tones. Interestingly, while there is a modern-day edge to ‘Sad Divide’, a strong leaning toward a vintage fuzziness with synth-driven flair keeps things familiar but fresh.

Melodically, you find yourself carried through a brightly coloured hall veiled with sparking glitter; however, despite the upbeat joviality of this laidback tune, profoundness lies in the overall theme. Autoheart explain:

“’Sad Divide’ explores the emotional fractures in human connection… the paradox of being connected yet emotionally distant… to capture things that are personal yet universal.”

In addition to the single, Autoheart released an official music video for ‘Sad Divide’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
