Attom Darcy Blvd – Let’s Try Again (2024)
The brainchild of musician, artist and actor Mick (also known as Matt Carmody), Attom Darcy Blvd is a US-based force bringing a collection of established music industry professionals together for a jam with some cool drinks and pastries on standby. Alright, it might not be so casual, but Mick’s (and everyone else’s) penchant for powerful songs and moving melodies makes every session a fun experience. While a veteran artist with much knowledge, influences and background inspiring his work, Attom Darcy Blvd is making its debut with the single ‘Let’s Try Again’. Join me as we delve into their work.
As a debut track, I have nothing to compare the song to; no previous tracks or EPs that might indicate where Mick is going or what he’s been up to. Yet, while completely new, there is a nostalgic charm to ‘Let’s Try Again’ making Attom Darcy Blvd a comfortable old friend instead of a new acquaintance. Old-school and vintage but with a refreshing contemporary edge dragging a silvery thread of music across decades, generations, and genres.
Working with a prestigious production team, ‘Let’s Try Again’ is a moving melody wrapped in a pretty blues-tinged bow. Produced by Joe Cruz (known for his work with Carly Rae Jepsen), mixed by 12-time Grammy Award winner Josh Gudwin, and mastered by four-time Grammy Award winner Dale Becker, ‘Let’s Try Again’ blends mature sophistication and elegance with raw vulnerability locked in a heart-breaking arrangement.
The production team might be outstanding, but a song is far more than the wrapping. Breathing life into 40s blues and soul, “…a musical journey back to an era where soul music reigned supreme.” Joined by veteran musicians Curt Bisquera (drums), Joe Cruz (guitar, bass and keyboard), and Michelle Carter (vocals), Mick’s soul-stirring guitar twirls in a kaleidoscopic symphony. For me, Carter’s vocals add a special something to ‘Let’s Try Again’ as she pours fragility and tragic vulnerability into her rich, bold, confident execution.
This is my introduction to Attom Darcy Blvd, and the debut track is already wriggling into my ears, knocking about my brain and sending chills down my spine. If this is anything to go by, I am eager to hear their EP set for release in 2025.
