Atari Pilot – Blank Pages (2020)

Hailing from the areas in and around Swindon, Atari Pilot is a genre-defying foursome taking on the world with a new lust for life. Reforming in 2018, after lead vocalist Onze had a brush with cancer, the group went back to writing and releasing new material. Interesting note: the reunion was actually planned from Onze’s hospital bed and Frosty (guitar), Paj (bass) and Andy (drums) responded immediately with enthusiasm! The latest release from this UK-based group is ‘Blank Pages’.

Recorded and mixed by Onze in his home studio using Logic Pro X, ‘Blank Pages’ is a personal commentary on life and the difficulties to change when changes need to be made. As with most of their music, this track is inspired by Onze’s experience with cancer – both being diagnosed and recovering. Reflecting on the highs and lows of everyday existence, ‘Blank Pages’ points out that as much as you would like to have another life free of challenges, it is not possible to escape oneself and questions whether learning from past mistakes can build a brighter future.

Using a combination of insightful lyricism with a 1980’s post-punk meets indie-rock sound, ‘Blank Pages’ is a whirlwind of impassioned poignancy and wistful ambience. The concept of the track may seem like a downer, but Atari Pilot embrace positive escapism with a sense of life-affirming optimism. Fresh, fun and intriguing, the third single from 2020 is something to enjoy time and time again.
