Asta Bria – Emma (2025)
Borne of a passion for music, singer-songwriter Asta Bria found solace in her raw love for melodies – in Bria’s words, “…a little sparkling light that would occasionally pop out…” Hailing from Lithuania, now based in the UK, she captured hints of Western pop as a child, and it called her to the world of song. Skip ahead several years, Asta Bria is a classically trained artist with an eclectic wave of innovative, genre-defying eclecticism. Washing classical composition with a veil of jazz and pop, Bria turns heads internationally with intoxicating flair. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Emma’.
On the heels of her critically acclaimed single ‘Dream No6’, Bria delicately explores humanity with ‘Emma’. Co-produced and recorded with Jagannatha Suta at RAK and Angels Studios, ‘Emma’ uses the beauty of acoustic composition to deliver raw human vulnerability in the chilling melody. Interestingly, while the orchestral arrangement (courtesy of John Metcalfe) brings a structured, traditional element to ‘Emma’, there is a mystical waiver of almost innocent wistfulness with the pop-inspired tone.
Joined by Gintaras Pamakstys (piano) and Isobel Griffith (strings and percussion), ‘Emma’ is a harmonic symphony set to win hearts. Intricate and intriguing, the song rushes past your ears with kaleidoscopic charm; the piano and strings bring haunting with a simultaneous warmth. Add Bria’s obscure vocals and you have something lying in the realms of Enya, but with a sound distinctive to Asta Bria.
Melodically, ‘Emma’ is a swirl of duality – innocent but bold; confident but subdued; bright but with a fragile darkness lingering beneath. Penned as a tribute to her niece, Emma, who “took a pilgrimage to feed starving children in the world…”, ‘Emma’ is a complex but oddly simplistic tune. Asta Bria explains:
“It’s a prayer, it needed to deliver the pain and the anguish that comes from the goodness of a child’s heart, whilst also having the melodic ability to inspire and move the listener… ‘Emma’ is a biological moment in my life about my niece… This penning comes from the heart, it’s a piece of my soul…”
In addition to the single, Asta Bria released an official music video for ‘Emma’. You can view the video below or on her YouTube channel.
