ARREN – Dreams We Missed (2024)

With a sound transcending style, genres, and time, singer-songwriter ARREN brings the nostalgic charm of yesteryear to the 21st century, though the 2000s are now considered vintage if you think about it. Hauling different types of rock from classic 70s to alternative 90s and plastering them with a 2024 vibe, ARREN showcases his eclecticism, innovativeness, originality and genuineness as an artist. We came across ARREN not too long ago with his single ‘It Takes One To Know’ so we’re no stranger to his charms. Today, we delve into his most recent single ‘Dreams We Missed’.

Following his well-received ‘It Takes On To Know’, ARREN shifts to a strong pop-rock tone reminiscent of Weezer, The Smashing Pumpkins, Jimmy Eat World and Radiohead. A combination of bold bass, crashing drums and soaring guitar, ‘Dreams We Missed’ takes us back 30 years – can you really believe the 90s was so long ago? Joined by musicians Gary Duncan, Toby Shane Roys, FER and Tom Hartman, ‘Dreams We Missed’ is a harmonic union of unrelenting rock; however, at the same time, each instrument’s individuality contributes to the union like each person adding their own piece in the sonic concoction.

For me, the melody is heart-warming and a little heart-breaking in my nostalgic reverie, but it is the lyricism that adds true weightiness. Executed with ARREN’s rich, warm vocals, ‘Dreams We Missed’ is like holding your best friend’s hand, staring back into the past, and reliving the days of carefree youthful innocence with doleful sighs. ARREN explains:

“This song is very near and dear to my heart as it reflects on the beginning of my musical journey. Nothing compares to the joy of writing and playing music with your best friend as a child and having no responsibilities to get you down. This song is the first single from my upcoming debut 12-track album, Dark Earth that has been five years in the making. I’m looking forward to sharing ‘Dreams We Missed’ with the world and evoking a sense of nostalgia in listeners.”
