Arianna Brizzi – Bad Choices (2023)

Evolving from listening to a karaoke machine as a child to discovering her passion for music in her twenties, Italian singer-songwriter Arianna Brizzi’s career is a labour of love and leap of faith. Based in the UK but hailing from Italy, Brizzi’s life was not always about music. In fact, she studied Languages and Translation at university. The thing is, while her family was happy and she was pleased to make them proud, she felt miserable and wanted more. Enter Rome to study music and finally head to London to make a name. Come with me as I take a gander at Brizzi’s repertoire.

Following her well-received debut single ‘Bambina’, Arianna Brizzi draws together the best of alternative rock and pop-rock in ‘Bad Choices’. Heavier and more hard-hitting than the ballad ‘Bambina’, Brizzi finds the gruff attitude lurking beneath a pleasant face in ‘Bad Choices’. Oscillating between light and dark, she incorporates light-hearted and whimsical flecks of pop with the depth and powerful brashness of rock. I find this intriguing as it demonstrates her eclecticism and versatility as an artist.

While the melody takes you from highs to lows, it is more than just a pretty sound coming from the speakers. Intense and emotional, Brizzi evokes heightened emotions with the different tones. Lulling you into a sensual pool of music in the beginning, you feel rather soothed and expect something gentle however this is far from the truth. The powerful guitar riffs combine with Brizzi’s confident vocals pushing you back with ruthless resilience. It aligns so perfectly with the theme of female sexuality, empowerment and liberation.

“Through ‘Bad Choices’, I want to break the stigma around female sexuality and empower women to love and embrace their desires without the fear of being judged or feeling ashamed. I write and sing with no filter hoping that I can resonate with people that feel the same but are afraid to show themselves to the world.” – Arianna Brizzi on ‘Bad Choices’
