Arctisky – My Relief (2024)
The younger brother of John Mayer and best friend of James Bay, singer-songwriter Arctisky can easily win your heart with his soft rock meets indie-folk sound. Yet, while a lean toward Mayer can be heard, this Australia-based artist ensnares audiences with a boundary-breaking shove of eclectic uniqueness. Obscure and innovative, the elements of jazz, folk, rock and funk have him carving a niche in the music industry; first in his native Maldives and now on an international front. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘My Relief’.
On the heels of his well-received tracks ‘Unreal Love’, ‘Loose (ft. Nic Rippon)’ and ‘Let Freedom Ring’, ‘My Relief’ is a tender tale of resilience, empowerment and hope. Eager to connect with listeners on an intimate level, the personal narrative of Arctisky’s tunes makes him seem like an old friend with a warm embrace instead of something new. ‘My Relief’ is a profound melody, but in the depth and complexity, Arctisky once again navigates the dark holding you close as you share a conversation over a cup of tea.
Penned during the height of the pandemic lockdowns, Arctisky considers ‘My Relief’ to be one of great significance. Many people faced dark times, and this track was borne of dark times. Yet, amidst the mire of despair and tragedy, the track gives you insight as it hints at undying hope and acceptance. Arctisky explains:
“I wrote this song during lockdowns after surviving a severe health crisis that put me in the hospital twice. It became a letter to myself, a reminder to step back and heal.
Following the track ‘Let Freedom Ring’, ‘My Relief’ takes a step down with soothing indie-folk meets indie-rock tones. Smooth guitars intertwine with bold drums in a flowing flood of sound. A keyboard rings with shimmering, wistful tones and the warm vocals bring an added sense of resilience – like a deep breath lifting you from a suffocating pool of inner turmoil.
Sincere, sentimental, insightful and filled with raw honesty, ‘My Relief’ is truly a deep breath clearing your head, soul and body of all the bad sh*t. One of the tracks off his upcoming album Roots Vol. 1, I am eager to see what else this intriguing musician has up his sleeve.
