Annie Minogue Band – Now! (2024)

The daughter of a professional musician, Annie Minogue found herself surrounded by music from a young age. Lost in a creative environment, she quickly found a passionate flame and the fire inside her soul burns bright with optimism, hope and, well, passion. From vintage rock to punk, folk, blues and everything in between, Minogue was inspired to create intriguing, eclectic music with poetic twists. While I am terribly late to the party, as the Annie Minogue Band has entertained audiences for decades, it’s better late than never. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Now!’.

Over a decade after their single ‘Jet (ft. Mystic Bowie)’ – or at least according to Spotify – the group re-emerged on the streaming side of things with ‘Now!’. With an experimental shove to industry conventionalism, Minogue and her band are anything but pedestrian; this is entirely evident in the new single. Recorded and produced by drummer Nick Saya and guitarist Nunzio Signore, ‘Now!’ is a mishmash of vintage folk, blues and rock. Dragging us back to the 60s and 70s, ‘Now!’ is an old-school track made for modern-day audiences; something refreshingly nostalgic but created for contemporary consumption.

For me, listening to ‘Now!’ is like being tossed into a kaleidoscopic hurricane of music. Saya’s pounding drums beat in the background, while Brian Karp’s bass pulse alongside. Rob Clores’ keyboards twirl about as Signore’s soaring guitar floods through. Yet, for me at least, it is Minogue’s vocals that not only enhance the intoxicating haziness of the melody but also reinforce the vitality of the theme.

Penned as a tribute to change, ‘Now!’ is the voice for people demanding attention to societal struggles. It is “…more than just a song; it is a bold statement addressing the essence of today’s most pressing issues…themes of social justice, environmental concerns, and the collective struggles and aspirations of our generation.”
