Annie Dressner – 18 Years (2023)

’18 Years’ is a contemporary crestfallen Americana gem about love, loss and everything in between from NYC native singer-songwriter Annie Dressner.

Exploring the journey of a failed relationship, a subject many of us can relate to, Dressner really tapped into that feeling of loss from the anticipation of what could be right through to the realisation that things aren’t all we hoped for when embarking on a romance. Leaving nothing on the table when describing that gut-wrenching feeling of not being enough for someone you’ve thrown your heart and soul into. But by taking that feeling and throwing her heart and soul into this track with jangly guitars – the perfect accompaniment to Dressner’s melancholy vocals mourning the loss of a relationship – has created a catchy track full of feelings. A catchy track which has been stuck in my head since first hearing it only a matter of days ago.

’18 years’, and hearing a brand new track ‘Dance We Do’ played by Riley and Coe on 6music, has inspired me to explore Dressner’s back catalogue. A a great way to start 2024.  It looks like an exciting spring with a new album I Thought It Would Be Easier on the horizon. The album is due out on 5th April with an album launch tour in late April/early May to accompany it. Taking in a tonne of small venues up and down the country, this is a tour I hope not to miss out on and I hope you don’t either.
