Anjalts – Paint The World So Blue (2024)
Sauntering across the realms of rock, pop, post-punk and a bunch of other stuff, singer-songwriter Anjalts pioneers an eclectic brand of, well, we don’t actually know what to call it. Shimmering from electronic beats to acoustic sounds bringing a vintage tone with contemporary freshness, Anjalts is anything but pedestrian. We came across the US-based artist earlier this year with her emotional synth-pop track ‘Sometimes The Angels Cry’; today we look (and listen) at her new single ‘Paint The World So Blue’.
Inspired by humanity in all its glorious and gore-ious detail, Anjalts’ music is an intricate interplay of devastating tragedy, intimate emotion, and optimistic self-discovery. Following her critically acclaimed track ‘Losing My Mind’, ‘Paint The World So Blue’ shifts from a rollercoaster of toxic relationships to the calm beneath the chaos – the vivid exploration of a soothing harmony in the most dire and desperate of situations.
Recorded and produced at Abbey Road Studios, the new single is another electrifying rush of kaleidoscopic music. Showcasing her diversity, originality and eccentric innovation, ‘Pain The World So Blue’ slips from the alternative pop ‘Sometimes The Angels Cry’ and pop-rock-infused ‘Losing My Mind’ to a refreshingly obscure twist of old-school post-punk. Interestingly, while the complex melody is intricate, the track offers a simplistic starkness in its cinematic ambience.
Beautifully layered and textured, ‘Paint The World So Blue’ seems to have different levels of music with a sandwich-style effect. At the bottom, an EDM beat pulsates like a beating heart, while the second step brings hints of guitars and drums, and Anjalts’ haunting vocals lie across the top. Listening to the overall combination is an ethereal experience with a twisted emotion of being pulled through different dimensions; however, all coming together in an avant-garde symphony.
