ANIMATE – The Colour Of A New Day (2022)

Formed by long-time friends Luigi and Filippo, ANIMATE takes a nostalgic flair leaning toward the rock sound of the 80s and 90s in their music. Already featured on our website, ANIMATE has turned our heads with ‘Unbound’ and ‘Filling Your Void’; however, we are not the only ones singing the duo’s praises. Featured on Sinusoidal Music, Illustrate Magazine, Havoc Underground, Euro Indie Music, Rock Fueguino, and Roadie Music (to name just a few), the pair are building an international following. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘The Colour Of A New Day’.

Hot on the heels of their track ‘Unbound’, ‘The Colour Of A New Day’ is a harmonic expression of, as the band puts it, “…a collage of emotions, visions and feelings.” Inspired by the likes of Paul Simon, Van Morrison and Lou Reed, ‘The Colour Of A New Day’ retains ANIMATE’s soothing folk tone; however, there is a soft pop sound interwoven into the smooth melody. Simplistic with a minimalistic approach, there is a charming weaving of acoustic guitar, electric guitar and soft bass. The thing is, while a simplistic quality to the song, there is a kaleidoscopic ambience in the cinematic soundscape.

Recorded at Luigi’s home studio, CS Scattered Studio, ‘The Colour Of A New Day’ has a well-textured arrangement bringing all instrumentation into a flowing whole. What I find intriguing is how the band finds the delicate balance between organic and synthetic instrumentation, as well as enhancing the heart-rendering emotions with the acoustic style. Not to say Marco’s electric guitar is not outstanding, but the intimacy of Paul Simon is effortlessly reached in the bare-bones nature of ‘The Colour Of A New Day’.
