Anika Joshi – Running Out Of Time (2025)

With an aim to fuse various genres into a kaleidoscopic concoction that is not necessarily definable, singer-songwriter Anika Joshi daubs tinges of RnB, jazz, pop and soul in a “flavourful vision of music”. She creates a sonic tapestry of bright reds with shimmering blues, glittering green and silvery soulful vocals, being anything but pedestrian. While Joshi has a limited online discography – at least according to Spotify – she already has a fanbase turning heads all over the place. Performing with professional artists, gaining international airtime, vocal teaching, and a strong social media presence, Joshi reaches far beyond her Australian borders. Join us as we delve into her sophomore single, ‘Running Out Of Time’.

Following her well-received 2024 debut ‘Magnetic Glow’, ‘Running Out Of Time’ shifts from an RnB meets jazz-tinged single to a stronger pop realm. Produced with Emmy and ARIA award winner Sean Carey, ‘Running Out Of Time’ is a sophisticated combination of drums, guitars, bass and shimmering keys (courtesy of Beau Golden). As Carey sprinkles his magical musical fairy dust on the melody, Joshi’s new track brims with elegance and maturity. Yet, within the harmonic symphony, there is a glimpse of vulnerability and innocence peaking from its core.

For me, ‘Running Out Of Time’ is a soothing, charming, enchanting song; however, Joshi’s husky vocals seem to add an intricate aura of heart-breaking fragility. Touching on the complexities of human relationships, or rather the feelings teetering on the edge of tragic yearning, its poetic lyricism pulsates with raw emotion.  Joshi explains:

“Writing both the melody and lyrics for ‘Running Out Of Time’ allowed me to prove to myself that I could create raw and intense stories, whilst creating high-energy beats. I love the theme of urgency that comes with any rainy movie scene, so I really tried to encapsulate that feeling with this song.”
