Angie Bohlke – Just One Look (2023)
While singer-songwriter Angie Bohlke began turning heads with her melodies a few years ago, she has been writing songs for over a decade. Once Covid-19 hit the world with its lockdowns and isolation, Bohlke decided to dig up the old songs and took the opportunity to perform some of them via social media…and it spiralled. In 2021, she was invited to perform at the “Live At Heart NL Global Music Showcase Sweden”, as well as participating in a Newfoundland tour of the Arts and Culture Centres. In 2022 she released her well-received debut single ‘The One I Hold At Night’ and now she presents her latest song ‘Just One Look’.
Influenced by her love of iconic country artists Dollie Parton, Kenny Rogers and Patty Loveless, Canadian Bohlke leans toward the country end of the genre spectrum with her melodies. Reaching far beyond her Canadian borders, ‘The One I Hold At Night’ received critical acclaim across Europe and Australia. Her sophomore single ‘Just One Look’ is turning as many heads at a grander level – international following, here she comes!
Co-written by Angie Bohlke and Ina Earle with production by Clint Curtis, ‘Just One Look’ retains the powerful country style heard in Bohlke’s debut single. Yet, just as toe-tappingly Nashville as it may be, her sophomore single brings an element of classic rock within the tune. Perhaps a lean toward Americana with Chris Stapleton flair; but considering there are only two tracks to her name, Bohlke has still to define a signature sound. What I can say is that this music oozes confidence and natural musical talent.
As with many country songs, ‘Just One Look’ taps into the intricate emotional side of life. Touching on “finding the one”, Bohlke fills her sophomore single with joviality and cheer. Hitting you between the eyes with the force of her music, she ensnares your senses; however, an underlying gentleness makes falling under her spell a comfortable sensation.
“’Just One Look’ is about finding who you are with the help of that someone special. All it took was just one look and my whole world changed. I was able to be who I always wanted to be and be loved how I wanted to be loved. Just one look and my world changed.” – Angie Bohlke on ‘Just One Look’
