Andrea Pizzo and The Purple Mice – Hidden Figures (2025)

Known for their eclecticism and eccentricity, Italian group Andrea Pizzo and The Purple Mice push the borders of pop music beyond the norm. Dreamy synths shimmer along the melody, but a deeper indie vibe lurks beneath showcasing the darkness in cinematic light; however, just as the melody introduces complex layers, the lyricism is as profound and intricate. Tackling reality with its technological growth but with a nostalgic tribute to older science, Andrea Pizzo and The Purple Mice link reality with yesteryear in a transcendental sound. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Hidden Figures’.

Following their well-received single ‘The Machine’, Andrea Pizzo and The Purple Mice saunter into 2025 with ‘Hidden Figures’. Produced and arranged by Roberto Tiranti, who happens to play all instruments, ‘Hidden Figures’ is an obscure fusion of dream-pop and alternative pop with avant-garde sentimentalities. The easiest way to explain the new single is like falling into a spiral of pop-ness – a rush of terrifying, stomach-churning fear; however, there is an obscure silver thread connecting each aspect and catching you like a net in the mire.

Free-flowing and fanciful, there is a whimsical lightness to the shimmering synths, pulsating beats and fairy-like vocals. Then again, tendrils of darker, deeper, heavier emotion reach forth with deeper tones. An interplay between Andrea Pizzo and singer-songwriter Irene Buselli acts like a conversation, but simultaneously the duality of reality in the 21st century. The band explains:

“This release… delves into the history of technology and science shedding light on forgotten scientific pioneers… it is a heartfelt tribute to the exceptional individuals Katherine Johnson and John Glenn…”

Taken from their upcoming album Transhumanity, ‘Hidden Figures’ is…well, I’m not entirely sure how to describe it. What I do know is that I cannot wait for more from Andrea Pizzo and The Purple Mice.

In addition to the single, Andrea Pizzo and The Purple Mice released an official music video for ‘Hidden Figures’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel.
