Amie Jay – Miss Being In Love (2023)

From York Calling to Roadie Music, Illustrate Magazine to Dead Good Music, singer-songwriter Amie Jay is turning heads across the globe with her charming indie-pop sound. While her music is only making the rounds now, Amie Jay’s love for songwriting and melodies began early in life. Even before she hit her teens, the UK-based songstress discovered a love for poetry and lyrics which soon turned into songwriting. Once she gained a guitar, Jay combined these with melodies and discovered her path to performing arts.

In an interview with The Other Side Reviews, Amie Jay shared that music is cathartic for her and she hopes others will connect with her intimate tunes – “I just hope that people feel something, whether that’s relating to the lyrics, feeling moved by a melody and the emotion, or even just feeling uplifted and wanting to dance around with their friends. As long as the songs spark something in people…” Given the critical acclaim from audiences across the globe, it seems she is connecting and resonating with audiences near and far. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Miss Being In Love’.

Teaming up with producer Joe Reeves, Amie Jay’s new track flutters through various flavours of pop music. Retaining a commercial pop vibe, ‘Miss Being In Love’ is easily placed on any pop playlist out there. Yet, while it has the toe-tapping, sing-along charm of Taylor Swift or Lana Del Rey, a slice of electropop lies beneath the melody giving it a dance edge. Moreover, leanings toward the more indie-pop side of things add a rougher, tougher, more obscure sprinkle reminiscent of Fefe Dobson.

With its laidback groove and smile-inducing vibe, ‘Miss Being In Love’ is that song you have blasting through the speakers as you set off on a road trip to who knows where. Interestingly enough, while the track has a bouncing joviality it has a sense of vulnerable melancholy hidden in the lyricism. Amie Jay explains that “’Miss Being In Love’ explores the push and pull of being hurt in past relationships whilst missing the feeling of excitement gained at the start of new love…”
