Ambergrove – big morning (2025)
Not a single person, but an artist collective, Ambergrove is “…not defined by its members but by the art and the connections shared among each other…” The main goal of Ambergrove? To create something that sets people free, transcends time and space, and will remain through the ages. This is our introduction to the collective, but this “…supergroup of sorts…” has entertained and engaged international audiences for several years – at least, Spotify has a discography trailing back to 2020. Join us as we listen to the latest single, ‘big morning’.
Following the well-received single ‘stills’, ‘big morning’ is the second single from Ambergrove’s upcoming album, I Love You As A Bright Horizon (set for release on May 2nd, 2025). Combining the musical stylings of Anton Josef Kellner, drummer Nate Barnes, and percussionist Tony Mora, ‘big morning’ is more than just a few minutes of music; it is a vivid sonic experience wrapped in bold drums, evocative percussion and soaring guitars. Ambergrove explains:
“’big morning’ is a fun way to roll out the red carpet for the season of spring. For this one, we wanted it to be as visual as possible so that the listener can create their own head-movie when bumping it. The track is accompanied by a West African-esque rhythm that explodes into a big chorus before dropping you off at the bridge. Right before you hit the water, the final chorus picks you back up and leaves you right where you were when the song started.”
Produced by Anton Josef Kellner with mixing and mastering by Nolan Perry, ‘big morning’ offers that massive oomph of indie-rock with a blinding rush of indie-pop; however, for me, it is the push of a West African sound that ups the ante, adding a little something special to the song.
Melodically, ‘big morning’ is a burst of summery joy leaving you twirling about in a giddy haze of refreshing sound. The lyricism is as moving within its simplicity – not much to say, but everything said is just what you need. As I mentioned, this is my introduction to Ambergrove, and I cannot wait for the upcoming album.
