Amber T – Why Try (2023)

Despite being only 19 years old, Amber T has just over a decade of experience in the music industry. Beginning at age 8 when she performed at open mics to releasing music at age 15, becoming the youngest Ambassador for Yamaha Music London and even being praised by Sir Elton John as being a “brilliant singer-songwriter”, Amber T is quickly becoming one of the most intriguing artists of her age. When we last heard Amber T, the UK-based musician had us pumping our fists in the air with her electropop single ‘Contagious’ – a shift from the pop-rock sound in ‘Ripped Jeans’ and the indie-pop tone of ‘Tightrope’. Sampling all flavours of pop, she strikes out with diverse sounds in each of her releases. One of the most recent additions to her discography is her single ‘Why Try’.

As cute as a button, you might expect smooth, soothing songs from this blonde angel but there is a power behind her visage giving her the ferocity of a lioness. In ‘Why Try’, Amber T slips into a cloak of indie-rock with tinges of pop teetering about the edges. Pounding drums match dynamic guitars creating a hard-hitting whirlpool in which you can be easily lost. While the kaleidoscopic arrangement ensnares your senses, Amber T’s bold vocals act as both an anchor and reflection of her emotions. Away from the studio, Amber T revels in her confident performances and you feel that enthusiasm ooze from ‘Why Try’.

Penned when she was 16, ‘Why Try’ captures feelings of frustration and helplessness when faced with the isolation and uncertainty of lockdown. Amber T explains, “I feel like this song truly captured how I felt, and it resonated with so many others. As the years passed, I realised that the song’s message is universally relatable and people interpret the lyrics in their own unique ways…”

In addition to the single, Amber T released an official music video for ‘Why Try’. You can view the video below or via her YouTube channel.
