AM Shanley – Redshifting (2020)

Embracing the post-punk vibe of the 1980s, but adding a modern twist to the mix, Irish singer AM Shanley releases his debut single ‘Redshifting’ via Analogue Catalogue Records. Collaborating with the talented producer and engineer Julie McLarnon (Jeffrey Lewis, The Vaccines, Lankum), the new single brings together McLarnon’s distinct analogue sound with dreamy synths and warm vocals.

Beautifully arranged, ‘Redshifting’ is a melodic, soothing and interesting single. Synth-driven with a steady drumbeat, the track has a rather simplistic sound exuding calm and contentment; however, it is the addition of AM Shanley’s throaty vocals that enhances the intimacy and genuineness of the song. While not overwhelming in the “bowled you over” sense, the languid, flowing music can easily beguile a listener. This is the first collaboration between AM Shanley and Julie McLarnon, so I really can’t wait to see what sensational stuff they have planned for the upcoming album Hellacious.
