ALLYSE. – Cherry On Top (2024)

With her unique fusion of bold bubble-gum pop beats, intriguing RnB tones and soulful vocals, singer-songwriter ALLYSE. has the happy-go-lucky, mischievous, grin-inducing playfulness twirled in sophisticated maturity. Raised in a military family, ALLYSE. was exposed to diverse cultures, eclectic experiences and various musical genres adding a unique flair to her sound. A classically trained vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, the US-based musician dares to push pop conventionalism to its limit. This is my introduction to ALLYSE. but she is already an established artist with numerous collaborations, confident live shows, and garnering an international following far beyond her US borders. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Cherry On Top’.

Following her critically acclaimed single ‘Better Than You’, ‘Cherry On Top’ is ALLYSE.’s second step into 2024. A self-produced song, ‘Cherry On Top’ shifts from the punchy commercial pop of ‘Better Than You’ to something shivering between funk, pop and the insatiable vintage disco. Interestingly, while the fusion of vintage styles exists there is a modern-day edginess highlighting ALLYSE.’s innovative way of threading good music across time and space.

An immersive experience listening to ‘Cherry On Top’ is like being tipped into a kaleidoscopic bubble of music oozing warmth, joy and tenderness. Combining funky guitar, shimmering synths and a bold pulsating beat like a heartbeat, ALLYSE. speaks with you as a close friend about an intimate romantic tale. Bright and cheery, the melody has a toe-tapping quality, but while the rich vocals insert confidence into the track there is a lilt of vulnerability, frustration and confusion in the poignant theme of romance. ALLYSE. explains:

“The song was inspired by the line, “you think when love wins, you lose”, a reflection on a hesitant lover who fears losing their well-crafted life to love. ALLYSE encourages this lover to embrace the fun of love without fear…”
