All’s Eye Trio – The Simian (2025)

Draw together the musical stylings of Ari Joshua, Ben Atkind, and Kris Yunker, and what do you have? You have All’s Eye Trio, that’s what you have. A powerhouse project, the US-based threesome blend their experience, influences, inspiration, and, of course, natural musical talent in this genre-diverse force. Sauntering across different genres like jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, funk, soul, and some other stuff, All’s Eye Trio are anything but dull or pedestrian. We’ve already been introduced to Ari Joshua, but I’m keen to see what’s in store with this collaboration. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘The Simian’.

Recorded and produced with Mclee Mathais, with mixing by Jakael Tristram and mastering by Joe Lambert Mastering, ‘The Simian’ takes a glittering melody, punches powerful lyrics, and oozes originality. A nostalgic jump back to the 1960s and 1970s rock sound, the lads find a balance between acoustic and electronic elements in ‘The Simian’. Interestingly, as much as this is a sonic tapestry, every item can be heard within its unison.

Joshua’s guitars add a rock ‘n’ roll flair, while Atkind’s drums pulsate in the back. Jason Hann’s percussion dances about with shakers, bongos, and congas. For me, and this might just be because I favour the piano in songs, Yunker’s performance on the Hammon organ and piano stands out. Yet, as much as Yunker stands out, each instrument lingers in the melody with subdued vibrancy while still making it a vivid single with toe-tapping joviality.

Melodically, ‘The Simian’ is a full-bodied single, and the lyrics enhance its…um, full-bodied attitude. Joshua’s vocals are rich, warm and embracing, so you feel comfortable and content; in its melding with the instruments, the warmth increases, and the music seems to seep into your soul.

Classic vibes and contemporary grooves take people back to yesteryear while retaining a sweet freshness made for modern-day audiences. This is my introduction to All’s Eye Trio, and I am eager to hear more from the super-group.
