Alien Feelings – Bondage & Lipstick (2020)

If you are looking for a band that howls their anguish for an energetic shout-along, look no further than Alien Feelings. This band from Wrexham is giving you the only thing that is better than a singalong with their album Bondage & Lipstick. Packed with 4 punk-rock tracks that are sure to get your heart pumping, the album is a blast to listen to from start to finish.

Tim, Dale, Josh and Ryan are all about roaring guitars, pulsing bass lines and thundering drums. Having met at school and sharing a love for bands including Slayer, Nirvana, Green Day, Pink Floyd and The Who, they started playing together. After forming in 2019, they were promptly banned from ever playing their town again after a jaunty but ill-received impromptu performance.

The album starts with ‘Good Looking’, a melodic track that gets you into the band’s vibe. The opening draws you in with guitars galore and this beat that you have to move to. There is an infectious energy to the song that helps you get lost in the vocals and instrumentation. The catchy lyrics force you to sing along before you even realise what you are doing.

The track ‘Scream’ has a softer start than you might expect. The opening vocals are also gentler than you think as you are drawn into the song. However, this does change when the guitar line hits. By the chorus, you are faced with a wall of sound that gets your heart pumping and makes you want to jump around. The catchy lyricism of the opening track continues as you feel the need to sing along, particularly to the chorus.

‘Lie to Me’ has a deep bassline working with a lighter guitar tone to grab your attention. This interplay continues after the vocals hit and the melody takes a new turn. There is something almost funky to the melody that gets your foot tapping to the beat. This is potentially the most infectious song on the album as you are hooked from the first moment and only fall further under the band’s spell as it continues. You can easily listen to this song at any time making it an instant playlist add.

The album ends with ‘Town That Made Me’ which offers a rockier opening. However, there is something a bit sad about the melody that creates a sombre tone. The lyrics add to this feeling, but there is still this energy to the song that hypes you up. There is also something very relatable to the song whether your experience matches the lyrics or not.

Alien Feelings hook you with the wall of sound that is their album Bondage & Lipstick. The infectious sound of the band hypes you up and you are sure to enjoy each song from start to finish. To get the full effect of the album, you need to turn the volume up and just let go.
