Alice Pisano – Back To Her (2023)

Inspired by the intricacies of love, loss and life in the 21st century, singer-songwriter Alice Pisano takes poignant themes and wraps them in moving melodies. We first discovered Pisano a couple of years ago with her 2021 single ‘Crush’; and since then, she continues to astound audiences across the globe. From her debut single ‘American Girls’ to ‘Boys Like You’ and her EP Shattered But Still Cool, the UK-based artist has been topping charts, added to various Spotify editorial playlists, had her song ‘Open Up’ featured in the trailer for Hollyoaks, received regular airtime and gained rave reviews from notable publications. Needless to say, she is one of the most exciting artists to cross people’s paths.

Following her well-received single ‘Part-Time Girlfriend’, Pisano releases her new single ‘Back To Her’. Unlike the previous track that had a Taylor Swift pop princess flair to it, ‘Back To Her’ appears to be more “grown-up”. Still an upbeat pop song to have you dancing and twirling about singing along at the top of your lungs, ‘Back To Her’ oscillates between light and dark in the melody. Co-written by Pisano and Jez Ashurst, the single touches on the complex beginnings of relationships – or rather the need to avoid them. Pisano explains:

“I’d been on a few dates with this guy who couldn’t stop talking about his ex, to the point where it became clear he was still not over her – which seems to be a pretty typical situation, so many of my friends have been through it too. It’s about realising you should probably walk away, though that can be hard especially if you’re starting to fall for them.”

Lyrically, ‘Back To Her’ captures the irritating touch of “your date clearly not being over their ex”; however, the frustrated breath is accompanied by a hopeful sentiment that while this is not the one for you, the one exists. Melodically, the intricate emotions are woven into the rise and fall of music. Bold beats are the date – serious but with a fun upbeat pace. The twinkling synths shimmer in the back as you roll your eyes at the conversation. Pisano’s dulcet vocals swirl about your head giving you that message to leave and not fall in love. The outro with simple keys is one of the best sections with its inspiring, optimistic flair.

Sincere, sentimental, reflective and honest, Alice Pisano continues to show her artistic mastery of life’s fragility through music.
