Ali George – Hard To Find (2022)

The latest addition to his well-received discography is the single ‘Hard To Find’.
Following his single ‘Ferns’, Ali George adopts a smooth, gentle, flowing sound in his ballad ‘Hard To Find’. Noted as a folk artist, George captures the spirit of artists like John Martyn in his music; however, ‘Hard To Find’ has a leaning towards the iconic Cat Stevens. Now, I’m not a fan of comparing musicians, particularly as Ali George has a truly unique sound, but the intimate intensity and delicate finger-picking guitar tend to have a nostalgic Cat Stevens flair. Along with the impressive guitar playing, the arrangement includes steady drums, moving strings and even a trumpet interspersed in the harmonic melody.
While the melody can hold its own as a charming tune, it is the juxtaposition of laidback grooves and profound lyricism that showcases Ali George’s innovativeness. A toe-tapping track, ‘Hard To Find’ can have you smiling and laying back listening to its warm sound; however, it is a song with a melancholic and thought-provoking theme. Penned during the pandemic lockdowns, ‘Hard To Find’ touches on the struggles of people living in this uncertain society and how they are attempting to “pursue their dreams amid the pressures of work and the chaos of modern-day living…”
“I wrote this song during lockdown while living in Greece…I had become frustrated with not being able to perform live (due to the restrictions of the pandemic), and due to work, I had little time to promote my own music.
