Alexia Vegas – Feel This Way (2023)

At age 23, singer-songwriter Alexia Vegas is already a music industry veteran. With over seven years of experience to her name, Vegas’ songs have already been deemed “melodic masterpieces”. With recordings on Apple TV, Netflix and CBS, as well as appearing on countless Spotify playlists, being added to compilation albums, and having her tracks recorded by other artists on an international scale, I’m sure you’ll agree Alexia Vegas sprinkles musical magic into all of her tunes. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Feel This Way’.

Unafraid to capture the raw grittiness of intimate concepts, Vegas touches on one of the most complex and intimate themes in our lives: love. Exploring the intricacies of romantic relationships and particularly a break-up, Vegas “runs through the full gamut of emotions about her insecurities and uncertainties in deciding to break up with her lover…”

Taking us on a deeply personal journey, ‘Feel This Way’ oscillates between the bright and dark sides of love. Bright in its joyfulness and toe-tingly feelings but dark in the grimy complexities to make the relationship work. In her verse, she answers her lover’s question as to why they are breaking up – “…sunny days will follow the storm. I say love is never forever, and love starts dying the day it is born.”

On the heels of her single ‘Your Love Is Like A Slow Disease’, ‘Feel This Way’ traipses across different flavours of pop. Combining electropop with the mellifluous nature of dream-pop, ‘Feel This Way’ is calming and laidback with a soothing ambience. Yet, despite the smoothness of a commercial pop style, Vegas slivers a slight distortion into the song. It is this obscure expression of frustration, fear and vulnerability that has us teetering on the cusp of angsty disillusion while remaining in a bold, rich sense of empowerment.
