Alex Veach – GDB (It’s Not About Fashion) (2024)
For many, inspiration hits when we are older; discovering our fate and destiny arrives with the passing years. Alex Veach knew where his road lay before he was even 10 years old. At age 6, the US-based musician began studying classical piano and jazz trombone – both taking him to great musical heights. From training with internationally recognised musicians such as trombonist Dan DuPont and pianist Arlene Portney to touring with Cornell University’s orchestra – Alex Veach oozed natural musical talent. Join us as we delve into one of his more recent singles, ‘GDB (It’s Not About Fashion)’.
During his musical journey, Veach explored numerous styles and genres experimenting with jazz, RnB, classical, rap and EDM; this experimental eclecticism has him pushing boundaries into non-conventional musical limits. Following his rap-infused ‘Vibe All Night’ and reggae-driven ‘Feel The Attraction’, ‘GDB (It’s Not About Fashion)’ finds the line between rap, electronica, and shifts of afrobeats lingering in the background – a true representation of Veach’s innovative musicality.
A concoction of twinkling synths meld with Veach’s bold vocals, while powerful beats pulsate throughout the track adding a heart-pounding quality to this new single. A track set for club dancefloors or a fist-pumping audience at a festival, ‘GDB (It’s Not About Fashion)’ wriggles into your brain, sets your soul on fire and has you dancing from the first note. Yet, the tune is complex itself as in the lyricism.
Tapping into the “fashion” side of things, ‘GDB (It’s Not About Fashion)’ is perfect as a soundtrack for the catwalks of Milan, Cannes and Paris; however, it is not about fashion. Slinky models strut across the sonic catwalk, but the profound theme lingers like a poignant feline ready to pounce. Exploring themes of “identity, confidence, and rebellion…”, each word, sound and beat has those models walking along desiring self-discovery.
In addition to the single, Alex Veach released a video for ‘GDB (It’s Not About Fashion)’. You can view the visualiser below and on his YouTube channel.
