Alex Ko – Fantasy (2024)

With a reputation for confident, powerful and mesmerising performances, Alex Ko began his performing arts journey as the lead in the West End production Thriller. He toured the world, enthralled sold-out audiences, turned heads internationally, and now he steps aside to a solo project. With impeccably smooth vocals presented in sophisticated melodies, the UK-based artist is set to prove himself as “a standout name in the RnB landscape”.

Following his critically acclaimed debut track ‘High On You’, Ko retains a nostalgic breath of 90s RnB in ‘Fantasy’; however, just as there is a vintage flavour, there is a contemporary edginess to the single. It’s familiar but fresh, old but new, and showcases Ko’s ability to thread different eras in a three-minute melody. Moreover, ‘Fantasy’ blends pop, blues, soul and RnB in a sonic wrapper with eclectic flair.

One might consider ‘Fantasy’ your average, plain, simple pop tune, but it is more than that. With smooth vibes, laidback tones and heartfelt warmth, it is a friend holding your hand with a big smile on your face. Yet, as pleasant and comfortable as this is, Ko juxtaposes the joviality with a darker, poignant, painful theme. He explains:

“’Fantasy’ was written in the height of Covid. At the time of writing, I was back in Manchester working for the NHS test and trace in my Mum and Dad’s Conservatory. I was in the middle of a breakup with my boyfriend of three years. I came up with this song as I fantasised about my hopes for a rekindling of this broken relationship… We have all been there. We try to convince the person we love to change their mind even if they are the ones who did wrong by us…”

Sincere, sentimental, reflective and intimate, Ko’s ‘Fantasy’ is a sonic symphony to ease your soul and lift your heart.
