Alec Berlin – Patchen Avenue (2022)

With more than 20 years in the music industry, singer-songwriter Alec Berlin has turned heads across the globe touring, performing, recording, and just making music. In our interview with Berlin, he shared that it was the Beatles who initially inspired his playing – “I remember singing ‘She Loves You’ to my dog in order to get him riled up. Later I was blown away by the guitar sound on Sgt Pepper.” Along with The Other Side Reviews, Berlin has been making noise on numerous blogs like Sinusoidal Music, Rock Era Magazine, Find No Enemy, Less Than 1000 Followers and many more. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Patchen Avenue’.

The title song off his seven-track EP Patchen Avenue, Berlin’s new single is an instrumental ballad to calm listeners and soothe souls. With a similarity to the sounds of the Beatles, ‘Patchen Avenue’ has a nostalgic pop style; however, tinges of indie-rock can be heard throughout the arrangement. As with the guitar on Sgt Pepper, Alec Berlin brings a moving, heartfelt and enchanting guitar sound to his melodies and ‘Patchen Avenue’ is more evidence of this.

To be honest, I rarely listen to instrumental tracks, but when I do I appreciate that words are not always required to tell stories and share experiences. Berlin explains that ‘Patchen Avenue’ is “a quiet, country-inflected ballad that invites you to reflect, celebrate and mourn…”, and all with a delicate instrumental ease.

Sincere, sentimental and sensitive, Alec Berlin bowls us over once again with his charming track ‘Patchen Avenue’.
