Alberta Cross – Watch Me Fall Down (2024)

It definitely feels like summer is on its way now and the new single from Anglo-Swedish indie outfit Alberta Cross, ‘Watch Me Fall Down’, only solidifies that feeling. It is a perfect example of dreamy indie-pop. Having already hit the ground running in 2024 with the previous single ‘Never Gonna Walk Away’, this is the perfect follow-up to keep their momentum going.

‘Watch Me Fall Down’ is a self-described exploration of a father’s relationship with his children. I really related to this song as a father myself, especially with the line “And the children think I levitate”, which I feel perfectly sums up my personal worry that these kids think we know everything when a lot of us are just learning on the job. Musically this is a track that could have been plucked straight from 2008, taking all the best parts of that era. Best described as if MGMT and Vampire Weekend had a child who was brought up listening to New Order. It is just easy listening to background music, which I know will be enjoyed in my garden this summer.

Alberta Cross honestly are one of those bands that seem to have passed me by for years, I’m glad this single has made me stand and take note. I would implore you to do the same, especially if you fondly remember the late 00s as they encapsulate that sound perfectly. It is also worth noting if like me you didn’t really know them before now. Give their back catalogue a listen because I would bet that you’ve heard some tracks as they’ve soundtracked classic scenes in great shows over the past 15 years. For me, hearing their track ‘Longmire’ instantly reminded me of two of my favourite shows, Sons of Anarchy and Californication.

With two singles out already in 2024, I’m hoping more are to come and here’s hoping for a new album. Hope you enjoy ‘Watch Me Fall Down’ as much as me and that it will be a mainstay on your 2024 summer playlists.
