Alabama Weather – Depend on You (2021)

Alabama Weather had us twisting to the 80s inspired sound of ‘Honey’ for some fun. Now, they are helping up all get through tough times with an uplifting boost of positivity in ‘Depend on You’. Touching on the negativity of the world, they infuse the single with hope and optimism while reminding us that leaning on someone for strength is okay.

Using some alt-pop tones, the duo keeps the big picture in mind to offer all of us a bit of perspective. Bringing an understanding that once you get through the storm of negative events, the only way is up. Touching on feelings of uncertainty that we all relate to, they shine the way to something better.

‘Depend on You’ progressively enters your ears with a humming line that draws you further and further into the track. There is an endless depth to the soundscape like a yawning cavern of sound that you could fall into forever. The beats run across your senses while they bring a pulse of power with them. While the music has an expansive feeling, there is a subtlety to it that highlights the vocals. Through this, you are able to sink into the vocals and lyrics which offer the hope and optimism of the track. Later in the single, the music picks up and splinters into shoots of bright light.

Mary’s vocals enter over the melody with a whispered lightness. It feels like pastel mist wrapping around you and pulling you into the song. On the chorus, her performance gains power as she lets you know that you are not alone. Miika’s vocals offer a second side of the story when he enters in the second verse. His deeper timber offers a delightful contrast to the airy and almost ethereal tones of Mary. They come together for a wonderfully uplifting single that builds a blinding light in your chest that is just waiting for you to unleash it.

Alabama Weather let you know that leaning on others is okay while filling you with hope and optimism in ‘Depend on You’. The expansive depth of the music wonderfully complements the lightness of Mary’s vocals. Miika brings a deeper timbre that helps the bursting of emotions shine out when the music picks up.
