Aggressive Soccer Moms – Darling (2023)

With strong roots in the punk scene, Swedish trio Aggressive Soccer Moms bring old-school punk to modern audiences but without too much of a nostalgic twinge. Combining post-punk with dream-pop (and some aggressive punk-ness), the band has a spontaneous, ferocious and vivacious musical style. Already featured on The Other Side Reviews (that’s us!), Aggressive Soccer Moms have turned our heads, but we’re not the only heads the group is turning. Featured on blogs like Less Than 1000 Followers, We Write About Music, Nordic Music Central, Rock Era Magazine, Sinusoidal Music, and Find No Enemy, Aggressive Soccer Moms is making their mark on international music scenes. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Darling’.

Following their previous single ‘That’s How I Feel’, ‘Darling’ is the second track from Aggressive Soccer Moms’ upcoming album Quint. Retaining a similarity to Depeche Mode, ‘Darling’ stands with one foot in 1980s synth-pop, however, the other foot stands firmly in contemporary dream-pop/lo-fi sounds. A pulsating beat carries you through the track intertwined with soft, soothing synth sentiments. Interestingly enough, the lads carry you from a gentle floating to a pounding beat as it ends with something leaning more toward punk/hard rock.

Adding a further dimension to Aggressive Soccer Moms, a saxophone is sprinkled atop the upbeat track making it slightly obscure. The thing is, while ‘Darling’ has that “Nordic melancholy vibe’, it is a toe-tapping tune sending your soul soaring with a vivacious tone. Rich, bold and flowing, but with a sense of starkness in its nature, ‘Darling’ is another triumph for Aggressive Soccer Moms.
