ADVIKA – Come Back To Earth (2023)

Embracing her passion for music at a young age, singer-songwriter ADVIKA began playing classical piano at the age of four. When she hit elementary school, she took up the viola and Carnatic singing. By the age of 13, this US-based songstress was writing original material, experimenting with music production, and exploring various genres – ultimately leading her to a love for old-school jazz. Inspired by the likes of Billie Holiday, Betty Carter, and Ella Fitzgerald, ADVIKA is not only talented but has a forceful mastery behind her heady vocals. Now an award-winning student at Berklee College of Music, her voice “carries a mournful wisdom and humility far beyond her 20 years.” The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Come Back To Earth’.

Following her 2022 single ‘I’ll Never Reach Tomorrow’, ADVIKA finds a delicate line between organic and synthetic in ‘Come Back To Earth’, then obliterates it allowing different styles to fuse together in the ambient soundscape. Opening with synth-driven tones in an upbeat electropop tone, ADVIKA immediately places you in an otherworldly state seemingly drifting between deep lows and high highs. Interestingly, while the upbeat pop style does permeate, it is elegantly turned on its head with percussion and orchestral strings bringing up the rear hinting at a mournful, melancholic sentiment.

Moving from one side of the sonic spectrum to the other, ‘Come Back To Me’ is a flowing river of diversity. From the electronic beats to classical piano and viola to the traditional Carnatic (South Indie classical) singing, ADVIKA encompasses every obscure emotion in a mind-boggling way. Yet, while the melody can take you above, under and through a world of sound, the lyricism enhances the poignancy of the track.

“The lyrics describe the deep anguish of gradual separation in a relationship that once held a promise watching them slowly detach themselves from each other. One holds onto the promise and hopes that the other comes back, and when they do decide to come back it’s too late. There is nothing left anymore. The strongest bonds can be ephemeral if not cared for and nurtured….” – ADVIKA on ‘Come Back To Earth’

I could say ‘Come Back To Earth’ is sincere and sentimental. I could say it is heartfelt and tender…the truth is, it is so much more than that. Out of this world with a genuine appreciation for everything it has to offer, ADVIKA blows our minds with her unique sound.
