Adam Daniels – Born in the Dark (2021)

With a passion for various types of music, it is no wonder that Adam Daniels has a genre-defying sound. Based in London, this singer-songwriter brings synth-pop from yesteryear to 2021 with a modern-day electropop feel. Featured in RGM, Talk About Pop Music, Testicanzoni and YMX, Daniels is reaching audiences on a global scale. The latest addition to his well-received discography is the single ‘Born In The Dark’.

The lead track off Adam Daniels’s latest EP A Damaged Soul’s Redemption, ‘Born In The Dark’ nods to the music from the 1980s. As with the other singles on A Damaged Soul’s Redemption, there is a strong reminiscence to the 80s synth-pop sound; however, ‘Born In The Dark’ is far more rock-influenced than ‘Wait for Me’ or ‘Miracle’.

Moving from the dream-pop design, the new single is more reminiscent of Bon Jovi than Talking Heads or A Flock of Seagulls. Combining his rich vocals with scorching guitar riffs, ‘Born In The Dark’ has a hazy ambience with a kaleidoscopic swirl of sound. While his music tends to lean towards synthesisers, this incorporation of hair-band instrumentation shows versatility and innovativeness.

Along with the captivating single, Adam Daniels released an official music video for ‘Born In The Dark’. Placing Daniels before a solid colour background (pink and blue respectively), the video elegantly enhances the simplicity of the single. Yet, while there is not too much to the video in regards to acting, it is the solo performance that emphasises the poignancy of the song. The personal narrative exposes the darkness of emotional baggage and regret, however, the lingering sense of optimism and hopefulness is clearly defined with Daniels enchanting voice and shimmering light around the human figure.
