Abby London – I Wanna Go (2023)

Inspired by the power of music, singer-songwriter Abby London captures the core of hope, strength and freedom in her rebellious music. Toe-tapping and fun, many audiences can enjoy her combination of various styles with genre-diverse enthusiasm. London’s music tends to lean toward the pop side of things but slicks of jazz, indie-pop, soul and indie-rock flutter through the melodies. In ‘Off The Grid’, US-based London tapped into neo-soul sassiness while ‘Hysteria’ brought a grunge flavour to her repertoire. Critically acclaimed on an international scale, Abby London has a loyal following across the globe – including The Other Side Reviews. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘I Wanna Go’.

Following her tender cover of Elvis’ classic song ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’, Abby London carries the theme of adoring and enduring love in ‘I Wanna Go’. Penned as a tribute to her late cousin Lindsey, the single is a piano ballad filled with heartfelt, soul-stirring intensity. An acoustic piano-driven song, there is a simplicity to ‘I Wanna Go’; yet, despite the minimalist soundscape, the poignancy of London’s rich vocals insert a kaleidoscopic emotional intricacy laid out in a raw intimacy.

A meaningful song, there is a push-and-pull of solace with painful realisation throbbing in the ballad. For me, however, it is the raw fragility resonating from London’s vocals that sends a tear down my cheek and strums my heartstrings. You might not know what ‘I Wanna Go’ is about – another song on the radio. What you do know is how it leaves you breathless in its sorrowful intensity.

“’I Wanna Go’ is a heartfelt piano ballad written for my cousin Lindsey’s funeral. It combines my emotions, a poem by cousin Scotty, and family sentiments. The song, titled after Lindsey’s childhood phrase, aims to offer solace to anyone mourning a life cut too short.” – Abby London on ‘I Wanna Go’

Sincere, sentimental, insightful and honest, Abby London weaves a tale of loss and love in the touching single ‘I Wanna Go’.
