Abby London – Back In The Game (2024)
We all know that question: does money bring happiness? I have my opinions and you have yours, but I believe most of us would agree that it doesn’t. It can make life easier and that’s great, but does that make you happier in the end? Following her critically acclaimed single ‘War To Peace’, London once again taps into the grittier sides of human thought and emotion with her new single ‘Back In The Game’. While ‘War To Peace’ celebrated resilience when “breaking the destructive patterns of being victimised”, she takes a step back to answer the universal question: money or happiness?
“The thought of winning the lottery excites us all. We could have our dream home, quit that horrible job we hate, travel the world, really feel like we are living our lives – and finally achieving peace and happiness… We need money, we need wealth, but I think there is a fine line between worshipping money and using the energy of money to do good… ‘Back in The Game’ is about believing money and fame will bring security and happiness.” – Abby London on ‘Back In The Game’
Joined once again by producer Jakael Tristram, US-based London shifts to an eclectic pop sound in ‘Back In The Game’. Slightly avant-garde in certain aspects, there is a distinctive obscurity in the combination of piano, drums and percussion. Harmonically joined in an off-kilter melody; however, each instrument bounces from a different angle sticking together like chewed bubble-gum. London’s rich vocals seem to stab the track like pinpricks of an upset youth telling us that “no one wants her blood money”. Interestingly, while the single has an intriguing experimental vibe, the introduction of strings settles everything melding with a harmonic lull in the vocals.
Sincere, introspective and reflective, Abby London gives us a firm answer when questioning the happiness or wealth issue. A diverse step in London’s journey, ‘Back In The Game’ pushes her sound to its breaking point and it’s awesome!
