A J Green UK – Dirty Tricks (2024)
While A J Green began entertaining the masses as a solo artist in 2017, The Other Side Reviews only caught on in 2023 with his single ‘Losing You’; a little late to the party but better late than never. Gaining worldwide success with ‘Losing You’ and ‘Get Out Of My Life’, singer-songwriter Green made waves with international reviews, radio airtime, and music videos featured on Amazing TV. Described as a “formidable force in the music industry”, the multi-instrumentalist entrances audiences with confident performances and astounding releases. Oh, by the way, Green is a professional guitar teacher, so he also shares his skills as a tutor. Today, we’re taking another dip into his discography with the single ‘Dirty Tricks’.
Following the well-received single ‘All I Ever Wanted’, ‘Dirty Tricks’ shifts from a soothing blues ballad to upbeat, toe-tapping whirls of nostalgic rock. With a distinctive blues-rock tone, ‘Dirty Tricks’ blends Green’s scorching guitars and bold bass with Martin Dolman’s pounding drums. Yet, while the ferocity of heavier rock carries along the melody, a slip of Green’s keyboard lingers beneath like a softening anchor but with as much energy.
Recorded and produced at Mad Hat Studios with Mark Stuart (Magnum, Diamond Head and Robert Plant), the arrangement flips between sophisticated elegance and gruff grittiness. The eloquent layering of each instrument gives ‘Dirty Tricks’ a powerful rock feeling – confident, strong, forceful and dynamic. Interestingly, the rich vocals insert a sense of vulnerability amidst a tumultuous slice of rage.
Penned as the theme song for “a couple who are constantly cheating on each other…”, the interplay between the Green’s tenor and Rebecca Downes’ alto acts as an argument between the couple but with a yearning to “stop playing your dirty tricks”. Sincere, introspective and honest, A J Green demonstrates his musical mastery in the single ‘Dirty Tricks’.
In addition to the single, A J Green released a lyric video for ‘Dirty Tricks’. You can view the video below or on his YouTube channel.
