A Chat with Zipten (13.02.21)
Melding sounds of hard rock with underlying electronica, Italy-based Zipten has a sound that is unique and heavy. We speak with this talented artist about his new album Guitronica Cortex, making music, musical heroes and much more!
OSR: What is the tale behind your new album Guitronica Cortex?
Zipten: Guitronica Cortex brings together my passion for electronic music with rock. For example, there are techno, ambient and metal elements in several songs.
OSR: What was the writing and recording process like?
Zipten: I generally use the Macbook Pro with guitar and midi keyboard. I consider myself for 100% bedroom producer.
OSR: What is your creative process?
Zipten: It depends on the song. I usually start with a very “high level” concept in the sense that I approach the song from the mood I want to express. Other times, however, the theme is more specific. For example, in the song ‘Caronte’ I imagined the crossing as in Dante’s Divine Comedy.
OSR: Which is your favourite track on the album?
Zipten: ‘Enter The Void’. The opening track.
OSR: If you could change anything about Guitronica Cortex what would it be?
Zipten: I would probably put more rock-oriented songs.
OSR: How would you describe your music to a new listener?
Zipten: It’s instrumental music that takes inspiration from many different genres and moods, from ambient to rock and from deep house to electronic. I always try to take the listener on a journey.
OSR: How old were you when you decided to make music?
Zipten: I started getting into it when I was about 12 years old. Playing with samples and loops was the event that got me hooked.
OSR: Who are your musical heroes?
Zipten: Pat Metheny and Junkie XLai.
OSR: What languages do you speak?
Zipten: Italian and English.
OSR: Do you have a message for our readers?
Zipten: If you want to hear something instrumental that mixes different genres give my music a listen!
