A Chat with Vivillain (07.05.20)

Hailing from Bergen, Norway, the hard rock band Vivillain have accomplished a lot in a short period of time. Reminiscent of Guns ‘N’ Roses, Vivillain is gaining a strong reputation and pushing the boundaries of 21st-century rock. Taking a moment from his schedule, frontman Thomas Sixhøj Eide (TS) spoke with us about their debut EP Failures Fortune, future plans and his favourite ice cream flavour.

OSR: How did the band come about and what inspired your band name?

TS: It came up after spending a couple of months throwing around other (kinda terrible) band name ideas and we thought it was cool. Pronunciation-wise it sounds a bit like ‘the villain’ so it fits the heavier music.

OSR: You just released your debut EP Failures Fortune. What can you tell us about the album?

TS: It’s an EP that we feel really represents what kind of band we want to be. We want to play a lot of concerts so we really wanted to nail down the feeling of an energetic live performance for the studio EP.

OSR: What about the recording process?

TS: We had the pleasure of working with some fantastic people (Chad Schlosser and Michael Johnson) while recording this so we were blown away by how efficiently and brilliantly the studio sessions went.

OSR: Which is your favourite track from Failures Fortune and why?

TS: Mine is probably ‘Save Your Breath’. It’s just such a fun song with several climaxes and I especially enjoy the choruses on that one.

OSR: What about your least favourite track?

TS: Probably one of the ones that never even made it to the studio. *laughs*

OSR: Who inspires you on a professional and personal level?

TS: I actually find it impossible to narrow that down to a single person because there are so many. That being said, I feel that we are good at inspiring each other constantly pushing the limits of what we thought we were capable of individually.

OSR: Which celebrity would you like to meet and why?

TS: Does Bigfoot count as a celebrity? If so, I think that would be one hella valuable selfie. *laughs*

OSR: Describe the band in a single sentence.

TS: A nicely dressed adrenaline bomb that politely kicks you in the face.

OSR: Best and worst ice cream flavours?

TS: I’m a sucker for the Cookies and Cream flavour so that’s probably the best one. As for worst, I remember once seeing liquorice flavoured ice cream. I remember thinking that that was not what God intended for you to do with ice cream. *laughs*

OSR: What’s the best practical joke you’ve pulled or seen pulled?

TS: When I think of the time YouTube Rick Rolled its users. Always makes me chuckle when I think about it.

OSR: Do you have any message for our readers?

TS: You are awesome! Keep being awesome and one day we can maybe start a secret club for just awesome people and see where it goes from there.

OSR: What does the future hold for Vivillain?

TS: We are currently heading back into the studio to record some new songs. Other than that we can’t wait to get back on the road to play shows and meet more people.
