A Chat with The Great Leslie (24.03.21)

Merging the sounds of Maroon 5, Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco, The Great Leslie is an impassioned band with a rock-influenced sound. Described by Spill Magazine as “a powerhouse to reckon with”, The Great Leslie are intriguing and infectious. We speak with frontman Ollie Trevers about their music, future plans and more.

OSR: Cliche, but still a good starter: how did The Great Leslie form?

Trevers: We evolved over time. Initially, it was my solo project (The Ollie Trevers Band), and as of the first lockdown, we became The Great Leslie. With regards to former band members, people have come and gone, but now we have the final lineup with the latest addition being Julien our lead guitarist.

OSR: How did you decide on your band name?

Trevers: We all came up with as many potential names as we could creating a long list to pick from. The Great Leslie was just the one that stood out the most.

OSR: How would you describe the group to a new listener?

Trevers: I wouldn’t describe the group to a new listener, I would simply direct them to our social media accounts and Spotify. But if I was absolutely pushed to, then I’d say we’re an alternative/indie dance-rock band who reflect on life, love and various philosophical ideas.

OSR: What do you hope people take from your music?

Trevers: A sense of happiness and truth. I want them to feel a true connection to our music and who we are as individuals.

OSR: What is your greatest musical achievement to date?

Trevers: Probably our recent growth as a band in term of our fanbase. We have so many amazing fans now who are always messaging us, giving us great feedback and really getting involved in our journey. It’s almost as if they’re part of the band.

OSR: Do you have a favourite review of your music?

Trevers: Honestly, not in particular. Don’t get me wrong, we’re so incredibly grateful for all the reviews we get and so many bloggers and journalists have been really kind about our music, but the best reviews we’ve had have been from the fans. There’s nothing better than receiving private messages telling us how much they love our songs.

OSR: If you could perform with any artist who would it be and why?

Trevers: Probably The Killers, not for any other reason than wanting to go out into the crowd afterwards and see them play live and maybe even hang out with them, that would be rocking.

OSR: What is your earliest memory?

Trevers: I don’t remember.

OSR: Do you have future plans?

Trevers: We have many plans. Currently, we are in the studio recording our next six singles which we’re releasing throughout 2021.

OSR: Do you have a message for our readers?

Trevers: Go to any major streaming platform and listen to our music, therein lie the true messages.
