A Chat with One Girl Four Days (02.01.21)

Described by Sofar Sounds as “a neo-pop music project led by a self-taught musician”, One Girl Four Days is a creative musical sensation taking the world by storm. We speak with the artist about his new single ‘Simptember Rain’, discovering music and phobias.

OSR: What can you tell us about your new single ‘Simptember Rain’?

One Girl Four Days: Well, I used to like it when I made it, now I think it’s ok.

OSR: What was the recording and writing process like?

One Girl Four Days: Well, my work flow is very intuitive and I basically improvise my lyrics, melodies, harmony and drums. My goal as an upcoming producer was to turn studio recordings into jam sessions.

OSR: Does the track have any significant meaning for you?

One Girl Four Days: I mean, sort of. It’s the first track I released since the most “turning point” in my career which expanded from my music to directing and producing hi-fi and lo-fi music videos for internationally known artists; the most recent being ‘Sad Bitch’ by Borgore ft. Tima Dee.

OSR: What can you tell us about the new video for ‘Simptember Rain’?

One Girl Four Days: I do my own edits. The music video combines a bunch of different videos sent over Instagram from fans and friends from different parts of the world. There’s also a really cool animation video made by Willem Kingma and a few edits I “borrowed”.

OSR: Did you face any challenges when making the video?

One Girl Four Days: Well, the main challenge was Covid. I was quarantined in Jerusalem so the idea just kinda came to me and it was 95% done in, like, four hours.

OSR: What do you think is the best way to discover music at the moment?

One Girl Four Days: Collaborations and networking, and you do those to get to festivals/major YouTube channels. Everyone reading this, you’re welcome ❤️

OSR: Where do you want to be this time next year?

One Girl Four Days: I evolve daily.

OSR: Describe your music in one sentence.

One Girl Four Days: Minimal, catchy and experimental.

OSR: Do you have any phobias?

One Girl Four Days: Stupidity…and I really don’t like spiders.

OSR: Do you have a message for our readers?

One Girl Four Days: Work hard, trust your instincts and just be better than any other being on this planet – you’ll prosper ❤️
