A Chat with Matthew S. Horner (10.07.23)
A self-acclaimed “pop-punk dad that never fully grew up”, singer-songwriter Matthew S. Horner intoxicates listeners with his unique blend of rock, pop and punk. We speak with Horner about his debut album Outta Time, what his kids think of his music, superpowers and future plans.
Horner: All of my kids follow all platforms and like/share it. I’m happy they are not embarrassed by it! 😄 They can be brutally honest and I like that.
OSR: If you could change one thing about Outta Time, what would it be and why?
Horner: I would add more tracks. I always want to do something else to it or try and improve on it.
OSR: What do you hope people will take from the album?
Horner: I want to write something that’s versatile. Something that everyone can find at least one song that they like on it. Just to make that connection. Music is therapy.
OSR: If you had a superpower, what would it be and why that particular power?
Horner: Invisibility. I am not the most social person. I’d probably go invisible when someone listened to my music near me. It’s also really weird when someone likes my music and tells me, or I’m just awkward. I never claimed to be cool and whatnot. Im weird and I embrace it.
OSR: What do you think will exist ten years in the future that does not exist today?
Horner: The ability to have our consciousness uploaded to a computer and people never having to die in that sense.
OSR: Do you have any future plans as a musician?
Horner: I have already begun writing and recording my next album. I will probably move to just releasing singles rather than a full album. I have music videos with most of my songs on my Youtube channel.
OSR: What message do you have for our readers?
Horner: Live for the day like there is no tomorrow. Live out every dream that you can.
