A Chat with Konrad Klisowski (10.11.20)
Hailing from Poland, filmmaker and musician Konrad Klisowski is sharing his unique sound with the world. We speak with Konrad about his debut single ‘Start/Stop’, music videos and much more!
OSR: What is the backstory to the single ‘Start/Stop’?
Klisowski: It’s one of those “fine, I will do it myself” moments. I just came back home with no new video/film projects on the horizon, no artists to collab with, just me. And then.. CORONA! Holy dingus, I thought to myself, this is kind of crazy, what about my creative fulfillment? I cannot sit in one place doing nothing so I decided that I am a musician now; created a song, shot a music video and here we are.
OSR: If you could change one thing about the single what would it be?
Klisowski: Well, one thing that is definitely off is the song structure; it has no recurring themes, hooks etc. It’s just a story that keeps escalating, bangs, comforts, violently puzzles and then leaves some space to breathe after the chaotic adventure comes to an end. In the next music projects, I will definitely go with more down-to-earth, catchy, comfortable structures. Yet, in ‘Start/Stop’ it works perfectly the way it does as it is more of a multilayered art performance than a song.
OSR: What can you tell us about the music video for ‘Start/Stop’?
Klisowski: It is amazing! Not humble at all. ? Yet I strongly feel this way; it is a very unique, experimental adventure. From the beginning, I had this idea that even if you don’t like the song, you will be enchanted by the video as it is pure chaos magic.
OSR: What type of challenges did you face when filming the music video?
Klisowski: To be honest, I can’t think of anything that would not let me sleep. Everything just kept happening as I willed it. I did have to arrange locations, scenography, gear and actors, yet it all went really smoothly. Nothing could stop us!
OSR: If you could change one thing about the video what would it be?
Klisowski: I would make the high effort, complex scenography shots pop more – give them more screen time as throughout the edit they were given similar importance to those quick low effort shots I shot in my backyard.
OSR: Do you believe Covid-19 will have long-term effects on the music industry?
Klisowski: Hopefully it will! The biz seems really toxic and corporate at times; I am not into that. The Covid situation makes us all dive deep within ourselves, awaken our talents, focus on strengths and see and heal those aspects of our mind that are destructive. This might eventually lead to a whole restructuring of society and business; updated morals, priorities, minds. Love shall shine through and within us all ?
OSR: How are you coping with the lockdown and are there any benefits to being stuck at home?
Klisowski: Yeah, I love it! I have tons of time to read, create, meditate and plan. I got parents here with me but if I need socialising there is always the internet. I see this whole thing as a really weird, chaotic blessing. People just gotta keep open minds and expand their awareness.
OSR: What motivates you to create music and videos?
Klisowski: A need for expression. I got a lot going on in my mind and I find some of it valuable to society. I leave my thoughts packaged in a real nice box for people to open, observe and take away what resonates.
OSR: Do you have a message for our readers?
Klisowski: Love thyself ❤️?
