A Chat With June6xteen (03.02.25)
June6xteen has released her latest single ‘Me Myself & I’ – a fierce declaration of self-confidence and independence. Dive into our interview with June6xteen to hear all things music, and what’s next for the songstress.
OSR: ‘Me Myself & I’ has such a confident, empowering vibe. If this song were a movie, what kind of scene would it soundtrack?
June6xteen: The song would fit perfectly during a transformative sequence where the character fully steps into their power. Picture them letting go of old insecurities – cutting ties with toxic people, landing a major career breakthrough, or even having an empowering solo moment, dancing freely in their room, revelling in their own company. It’s a visual journey of shedding the past and embracing independence, with each scene showing them slowly realizing that they are complete on their own, with no need for external validation. The music would amplify that moment when they truly understand their own worth.
OSR: What was the “aha” moment when you realized you wanted to take your music in this bold new direction?
June6xteen: That moment probably came when I started feeling like I wasn’t just making music for others, but for myself – when I finally gave myself permission to fully embrace what I was passionate about, without worrying about how it’d be received. It was like a light bulb went off, and I realized that the boldest thing I could do was be unapologetically me. I wanted to discover new sounds, experiment with fresh styles, and bring a new vision to life that felt completely authentic to where I was. It’s like stepping into your own skin, fully confident, and unafraid to push boundaries. For me, that was the “aha” moment.
OSR: If you could describe your upcoming album in three words, what would they be?
June6xteen: Authentic, innovative and refreshing.
OSR: Who are your biggest musical influences, and how have they inspired your latest work?
June6xteen: I listen to many different genres, but my biggest musical influences are Christina Aguilera, Tate McRae, Billie Eilish, Charlotte Cardin, Jessie Murph, Aretha Franklin, and Whitney Houston. Most of my influences inspired me for my sound and my music style. I also have a similar flow as some of the artists named previously.
OSR: You’ve mentioned that ‘Me Myself & I’ is about staying true to yourself. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone struggling to find their own path?
June6xteen: I’d say, trust the process, give yourself grace and never stop the grind. Finding your path isn’t always a straight line – it’s messy, and sometimes you won’t understand why things are happening the way they are. But I believe everything happens for a reason, even if you can’t see the reason in the moment. Each twist and turn is part of the journey that ultimately brings you closer to your true self. Don’t rush it or compare yourself to anyone else. Never stop pushing and working for your goals and believe in yourself. Sometimes, all you can do is trust that things will fall into place when they’re meant to.
OSR: What’s your favourite part of creating a new songwriting, recording, or performing it live?
June6xteen: It’s so hard to choose because every step of creating a new song is exciting in its own way. Songwriting is where all the magic begins, recording brings the track to life, and performing adds an entirely different energy. There’s nothing like seeing the crowd light up, singing along, and connecting with your lyrics, it’s an incredible feeling.
OSR: If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
June6xteen: Collaborating with someone like Tate McRae or Charlotte Cardin would be amazing. Both have this raw, emotional honesty in their music that really connects with listeners. Tate’s got that vulnerable, introspective style, while Charlotte blends sultry pop with deep storytelling. I think a collaboration with them could bring out a unique, powerful blend of vulnerability, strength, and authenticity in a track. It would be incredible to explore different sounds and perspectives while still keeping that real, relatable feel.
OSR: Your sound combines nostalgic and futuristic elements. Do you have a favourite era of music that inspires your style?
June6xteen: Definitely! I’d say the ’80s have a huge influence on my sound. The bold synths, infectious pop melodies, and experimental production from that era are all things I draw from. But I also love blending in more futuristic elements – think electronic textures and newer production techniques that give it a fresh, current edge. It’s like pulling from the past while creating something that feels forward-thinking. There’s something about that mix of nostalgia and innovation that really resonates with me.
OSR: TikTok has been a major platform for you with millions of views. How has social media impacted your career and your connection with fans?
June6xteen: The platform has been key in helping me build a community and I’m still working on growing it further. TikTok has definitely introduced me to many new fans, though transitioning them to music platforms remains a challenge. What I appreciate most, however, is the ability to connect directly with listeners and see the positive impact I’ve had on people.
OSR: Looking ahead, what are your biggest hopes for this next phase of your career, and how do you envision your music evolving in the future?
June6xteen: Looking ahead, my biggest hopes for this next phase of my career are to plan a summer tour and see one of my songs really blow up on social media. I’d love to connect with more fans in person and share my music in new places. As for my music, I really want to establish my sound and experiment with different styles, while staying true to what resonates with my listeners. It’s all about finding that unique vibe and continuing to grow both creatively and in terms of my reach.
