A Chat with Jonas Music (08.10.20)

Hailing from Berlin, Germany, Jonas is a 20-year-old singer-songwriter and producer. Grounded in the indie-pop genre, this artist has a soothing, dreamy and intriguing sound. We speak with Jonas about his latest release ‘Let My Heart Control’ and many other things.

OSR: What is the backstory to your new single ‘Let My Heart Control’?

Jonas: ‘Let My Heart Control’ is a song that is inspired by regret about wrong decisions that I made in life. The song depicts the conflict between my mind and my heart when I’m making life-changing decisions.

OSR: Does the single have any significant meaning for you?

Jonas: It’s the most personal song I have ever written. It focuses on the conflict that I have dealt with for the last few years and that I am still dealing with now. It is the question whether I should follow my dream and become a musician even though the odds are against me or whether I should go the safe route and get a normal job that might not make me happy at the end of the day.

OSR: What would you like your listeners to take from your music?

Jonas: I would like my listeners to follow their heart instead of their mind. Sometimes you just need to take risks. They eventually pay off and will make you happy at the end of the day.

OSR: If you could change anything about ‘Let My Heart Control’ what would it be and why?

Jonas: A song is never perfect and there are always some small details that could still be changed. However, I am extremely happy with how the song turned out and wouldn’t like to change anything about it.

OSR: Do you feel you have grown as a singer-songwriter over the past few years?

Jonas: I have finally discovered my personal sound. A few years ago, I wrote my first songs and most of them were commercial pop songs. Since then my music taste has evolved and I have integrated some of my influences reaching from indie-pop artists like Tame Impala and SYML to composers such as Daniel Hart and Clint Mansell to create my own sound.

OSR: Are you a cat person or a dog person?

Jonas: I am definitely a dog person.

OSR: Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the future?

Jonas: I am an optimist. My mentality is to never give up. You should always make the best out of every situation and find joy in the small pleasures of life.

OSR: Do you have any phobias?

Jonas: The thing I am most afraid of is not to live life to its fullest.

OSR: What advice would you give any aspiring unsigned artists?

Jonas: I am still in the early stages of my career, but the most important advice I can give to other artists is to make the music you love. Making music that you don’t like just to please other people will not make you happy in the long run. After all, if you love your songs there will always be at least one person who loves them: you.

OSR: What is the greatest challenge you face as a musician and producer?

Jonas: Reaching people with my music. Nowadays there are so many artists out there that it’s incredibly hard to share my songs with other people. You have to look for all kinds of exposure to be noticed by listeners, that’s why I am grateful to be featured on this blog.

OSR: What are your future plans?

Jonas: I am planning to do genre-bending music and to do more collaborations. I already have some new songs with Maxi Diehl in the works. She is an incredibly talented artist who I collaborated with on my song ‘High in the Clouds’. I can’t wait to share our future projects.

OSR: Do you have a message for our readers?

Jonas: If you like heartfelt music and want to escape your everyday life for a few minutes, take a listen to my song ‘Let My Heart Control’. I’m sure you will love it. Thank you so much for your support!
