A Chat with Fall of Saturn (31.07.23)
Like a shot of adrenaline coursing through your veins, London-based metal group Fall of Saturn leave you gasping for breath with their scorching music. We speak with the foursome about their new single ‘Knowledge Is Power’, what music means to them, future plans and more.
OSR: How did Fall of Saturn come about and what inspired you to make music?
Fall of Saturn: Where shall we start on this question? Let’s just give you the highlights. Fall of Saturn started up initially a few years ago, after a small adjustment to the band we are now settled in as the current lineup. Music runs through the veins of each member of the band. So it was inevitable that one day our paths would cross and this is the result so far.
OSR: What does music mean to you?
Fall of Saturn: We all have many musical influences and come from different musical backgrounds but ultimately each of us has a great love for metal.
OSR: What can you tell us about your new single ‘Knowledge Is Power’?
Fall of Saturn: ‘Knowledge Is Power’ fundamentally is about waking up and opening our eyes. Is about experiencing life in our own way and living our lives fully. Living for the moment and challenging our beliefs every day.
OSR: ‘Knowledge Is Power’ is your sophomore single following ‘MathemEthic’. How do you feel the new song compares to your debut?
Fall of Saturn: Well both songs have a very different approach. ‘MathemEthic’ our debut single is the first ever song we did as a band and will be special to us for this reason. ‘Knowledge is Power’ is actually the fifth song we wrote, the structure of the song is very different to the predecessor. With more technical and complex elements to the song resulting in a completely different groove than the first single.
OSR: What do you hope people take from your music?
Fall of Saturn: Like any band, you hope that people want to listen to our music and love what we do. Trying to recreate as best as possible the live energy we have on stage onto a hard copy or download for the listener to enjoy.
OSR: Did you experience any challenges when recording the single?
Fall of Saturn: Every time we record a new single we are challenged to improve the sound of the instruments and maximise a perfect balance.
OSR: What do you feel are the pros and cons of being in a band instead of a solo artist?
Fall of Saturn: When you’re in a band you create together which I see as an important progression from being a solo artist. As a band you bounce ideas around between us to achieve a result we are all happy with. To top it off it’s more inspiring to create music with like-minded individuals. This unleashes a more spontaneous way of writing songs collectively.
OSR: Describe yourself as a person in one sentence.
Fall of Saturn: A progressive vision for our music.
OSR: What is one thing you wish you knew more about?
Fall of Saturn: Recording by yourself won’t be easy.
OSR: Do you have future plans as Fall of Saturn?
Fall of Saturn: Yes, we are planning to release a mini-album in the next few months and hit the road. We will keep you posted on our social media platforms of all of the above in due time.
OSR: Do you have a message for our readers?
Fall of Saturn: Sit back, turn up the volume and press play on our latest single. Come check us out for our live experience, Fall of Saturn.
