A Chat with Fab The Duo (26.06.2020)
Fab The Duo is a glam pop-rock duo based in New York. The duo met on Tinder and are looking to change the cultural narrative about love in the LGBTQ space. Their latest single ‘Stubborn’ is their most personal yet. We sat down with Fab The Duo (FTB) to talk about the new track, their music and much more!
OSR: Why did you choose to enter the music industry?
FTB: We’ve always been passionate about music and performing and we want our story heard. Representation in the music industry is important and we’re making history as one of the first gay couples to break into the industry.
OSR: What can you tell us about your release ‘Stubborn’?
FTB: ‘Stubborn’ is our most personal song and the first song we’re releasing where we really open up about our relationship. We wanted to release a stripped-down track that shares who are.
OSR: What was the recording and writing process like?
FTB: We’ve worked with a GRAMMY-winning producer named Mr. Sonic throughout our whole EP. We always lay down the track on guitar and vocals and let our producer do the magic. We take a collaborative approach when it comes to writing songs. We’re always honest with each other about what we can do better.
OSR: How would you describe the music you typically create?
FTB: It’s been difficult to describe our music in one particular style or genre but our songs tend to be big pop-rock anthems. ‘Stubborn’ is different from the rest because it is softer and more intimate.
OSR: What do you think is the best way to discover new music?
FTB: Social media is everything. We’ve discovered some of our favourite new artists on Instagram and we’ve been approached about opportunities through that platform. We even discovered MariahLynn, our featured artist on ‘No Prince Charming’, through Tik Tok.
OSR: Which famous musicians do you admire?
FTB: We’re big fans of P!NK, Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert, Lenny Kravitz, and Elton John. We love any artist that isn’t afraid to be themselves and break out of the mould!
OSR: What is the best advice you have been given?
FTB: Take what people used to bully you for and proudly use it as your brand!
OSR: Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?
FTB: Yes, but it is so much easier to perform when we’re on stage together. We focus on each other instead of the audience and it takes a lot of the pressure off.
OSR: What is the weirdest or funniest question you have ever been asked in an interview?
FTB: We were asked in an interview how our 2020 was going to “top” 2019, given that we’re a gay couple, it was an interesting choice of words.
OSR: What does 2020 and beyond hold for Fab the Duo?
FTB: We just released our debut EP Our Love Is Resistance and we have no plan of slowing down when it comes to releasing music! As soon as music venues open, we’re going back to performing live, with hopefully a tour in the works.
